Abuja’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is Nigeria’s first planned city and became its capital in 1991. The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) is one of the six local governments in the FCT. As the country’s 5th most populated city, in 2021 AMAC was home to approximately 1.96 million people, including various indigenous groups such as the Bassa, Gade and Gwandara. A hub for governance, the main economic activities are focused around the services sector (71%), including finance, tourism and transport.
