Supporters

Covenant of Mayors in Sub‑Saharan Africa (CoM SSA) supporters are local government associations that choose to become signatories to the initiative. Supporters play a critical role in strengthening the CoM SSA ecosystem by enabling collaboration between local governments within a region as well as with national and regional actors.

How does CoM SSA benefit supporters?

By joining the CoM SSA supporters gain the opportunity to actively contribute to Africa's climate and energy transition while advancing their own institutional objectives.

Key benefits include:

  • Increased visibility and leadership
Supporters are recognised as key partners advancing climate action, sustainable energy access and resilience across African cities.

  • Strengthened partnerships and collaboration
Engagement in the CoM SSA ecosystem connects supporters to municipalities, regional institutions, and global climate initiatives within the broader Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy alliance.

  • Alignment with strategic climate commitments
Supporting CoM SSA helps organisations operationalise their mandates related to climate resilience, sustainable development, and urban sustainability.

  • Knowledge exchange and access to resources
Supporters participate in a growing network that shares technical knowledge, best practices, and opportunities for joint projects and funding.

How to become a supporter

Local Government Associations (LGA's) interested in becoming supporters of the Covenant of Mayors in Sub‑Saharan Africa should demonstrate alignment with the initiative's vision of low-emission, climate-resilient communities with secure, sustainable, and affordable energy access.

To become a supporter, LGA's typically:

  1. Endorse the vision and principles of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy.
  2. Commit to supporting municipalities within their territory or network in addressing climate mitigation, adaptation, and energy access challenges.
  3. Complete the Registration form.
