Since joining the Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA), one of the Kasese municipality’s commitments has been to increase the management and mitigation of climate risks. Recently, the city took a step towards accomplishing this goal by completing the mapping of its urban forest areas and wetlands.

Capacity building in access to climate finance
By signing the Convention of Mayors of Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA), cities commit to reducing their greenhouse gas emissions, using clean energy and building resilience to the effects of climate change. The first step in this process is the development and implementation of a Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SEACAP). Based on an analysis of local data, the SEACAP guides the actions of local authorities in response to the challenges of their territory. In resource-constrained communities, the transition from planning to implementation can be complex.
