Cities in Sub-Saharan Africa will double, or even triple their population by 2050. The Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA) stands by local governments to face these challenges, helping them to develop resilient and climate neutral infrastructure while crowding in the private sector.
GIZ Urban October is an annual event that focuses on the challenges and opportunities created by the fast rate of change occurring in urban areas around the world. On 27 October (10:30-11:30 CEST), a dedicated session will focus on the role CoM SSA plays in fostering horizontal and vertical dialogues between local and national governments, including the private sector, civil society organisations and marginalised groups. Such exchanges help identify and push forward the most needed infrastructure projects that can decrease the vulnerability of local populations to the impacts of climate change.
CoM SSA signatory cities will bring their voices to the forefront of the panel discussion and share concrete examples of positive and enduring change in climate actions, sectors and projects. The session will also emphasize the successful work of the initiative’s joint European approach through its implementing partners.
