Research and innovation

There is an urgent need for local governments across Africa to develop climate action plans and associated implementation plans to strengthen the resilience and sustainability of rapidly growing urban populations.Although many African municipalities do not have the available financial resources to immediately implement their climate action plans, developing the action plans now provides many opportunities and benefits, including innovative ways to start implementing some actions.

The aim of this report is to showcase enabling factors, examples and best practices from municipalities in Africa which have succeeded in overcoming some of the above barriers and, as a result, accelerated climate change action planning for smart implementation.
