This event, as the opening session of the Cities, Urban and Rural Settlements, Infrastructure and Transport track at Africa Climate Week (ACW) will aim to elevate subnational leadership and promote multi-level governance for climate action, as part of the LGMA roadmap towards COP28. It will be a key moment to promote the importance of multi-level governance (MLG) to national governments and the private sector alike, in line with the COP28 Presidency’s Sustainable Cities Strategy, in order to showcase city leadership in implementation of the NDCs (and achieving national targets within sectors), as well as the opportunity for improving subnational access to finance for scaling and replicating across African cities - where funding for climate action is most critically needed.

 

The session will bring together three main stakeholder groups: city Mayors, country Ministers and Development Finance Institutes (DFIs) that are already moving on the continent, ensuring finance is available and accessible for city-scale action across selected sectors.
