The 28th Climate COP will be hosted by the Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the aim of building on past successes and laying the groundwork for future ambitious efforts to effectively address the global challenge of climate change. As part of COP28, CoM SSA will be co-hosting an in-person session with ICLEI Africa in the Somalia Pavilion, In the Blue Zone on 3 December. The event will be accessible in English and French.
 

In navigating the interconnected challenges of climate change and the pandemic of inequality, the Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA)’s approach is grounded in the reality of urban life. Recognising the diverse and dynamic obstacles posed by these issues, we underscore the need for a tailored approach—there's no one-size-fits-all solution and local governments are pivotal to this transformative journey, serving as the catalyst for collaboration.

 

Our resilience toolbox is built through local conversations, breaking down barriers, and employing a gender-inclusive lens. This collaborative and inclusive methodology is a critical tool in addressing both climate change and inequality. It ensures that practical, adaptable, and effective resilience measures are developed and integrated into the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SEACAPs) which all CoM SSA signatories commit to developing.
