Kisumu County officials trained in sustainable energy management strategies

From 26th to 31st July 2021, Kisumu County officials from the Department of Energy & Industrialisation attended a certified Energy Manager training, supported by Expertise France through the European Union funded the Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA) initiative.
As part of the Kisumu County Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SEACAP) elaboration process, Expertise France undertook a capacity needs assessment to understand the skills in the county and identify areas for training. With the County, a list of capacity building needs was defined and programmed in the course of the project, between January 2020 and October 2022.
So far, a few trainings have been implemented for County officials and leaders, including certified Environment Management System, SEACAP reporting training, sensitization of County elected members’ (Members of the County Assembly, MCAs) in the SEACAP and climate actions at large.
This certified course, meant for technical officers who are directly involved in installation and supervision of energy development projects, and who are aiming to become familiar with identification as well as implementation of best Energy Management strategies in various facilities, will support Kisumu County in maintaining sustainability in the implementation of the actions identified in the SEACAP.
The training was done by Eenovators, licensed by the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) to carry out energy Management trainings. This training will allow the technical officers to optimise the energy performance of a facility, building, or industrial plant. These trained and certified officers will help in the energy management strategies of the County.
