Cameroon: National Workshop of Cities and Local Authorities on Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa

Posted on : 8 February 2019

Several Cameroonian municipalities have expressed interest in joining the CoM SSA during the Africities conference held in Marrakech in November 2018. With the support of UN Habitat, two sensitization workshops on the CoM SSA have already been organized in Kribi and Maroua in Cameroon, respectively in July and August 2018. To date, more than 50 mayors have already pre-committed to CoM SSA and nearly 15 municipalities have subscribed to the Convention.

In order to support them in the finalization of their membership and to facilitate the development of   Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plans (SEACAPs) and while presenting opportunities for financing these SEACAPs to municipalities already engaged in the CoM SSA, the Covenant of Mayors Office is organizing a national workshop from 13-15 February 2019 at the Hotel Franco in Yaoundé with the support of UN-Habitat.

60 Cameroonian mayors are expected to attend the workshop, which will be sponsored by the Government of Cameroon through the Ministries of Decentralization and Local Development (MINDDEL) and Housing and Urban Development (MINHDU).
