O ritmo sem precedentes em que a situação global do COVID-19 está a mudar está a afetar diretamente as cidades e os governos locais. As cidades são e serão decisivas para garantir o bem-estar da população durante e depois desta pandemia, que apresenta desafios únicos aos seus líderes.

O dia-a-dia dos funcionários do governo local mudou severamente. Alguns estão a ser redistribuídos para apoiar as operações de resposta. Aqueles que podem continuar com entregas pré-COVID-19 estão a fazê-lo com acesso limitado aos seus escritórios ou a partir de casa. Isto restringe reuniões presenciais e compromissos. Aqueles que apoiam as cidades e os seus residentes, como o governo nacional, o sector privado, as agências de desenvolvimento e a sociedade civil enfrentam as mesmas restrições.
